What’s your Next Step?

Hello, epikos! I’ve been on staff here for two months, and already it is crystal clear that the people at epikos are passionate about this church, the work it is doing in the community, and most importantly, how God is being glorified. My husband, Collin, and I are so thankful and humbled that we get to be a part of this body that is so committed to following Jesus. As the Next Steps Director, my desire is to help people grow in their relationship with Jesus, taking a next step in being a better disciple, whether that’s through getting connected in a small group, being baptized, or serving on a ministry team.

In just two months, I’ve seen over a hundred people commit to serve every single week in order to launch the North Side location; I’ve spoken to people who went to Guatemala on a mission trip to serve others, and they can’t wait to go back; I’ve witnessed two dozen people getting baptized in the frigid waters of Lake Michigan; I’ve heard stories about how people love their small groups and take care of each person in them; I’ve seen volunteers pass out snow cones on a 95 degree day, pour coffee, hold doors, pass out programs, cuddle babies, take students to camp, and take pictures at epikos gatherings. Every single one of these people has worshipped God by serving each other.

But why? Why are there so many people taking next steps of service? Well, short answer: It’s Biblical! As Pastor Kurt has been preaching about the last couple weeks: We are called by Jesus and Paul to love and serve one another.

Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.” – John 13:34.

“You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love.” – Galatians 5:13.

When we serve, we get connected. We grow unified and feel more a part of the epikos community. Through our gifts of service, we make contributions. And, we benefit from the contributions of others. I’ve seen it here, and as epikos continues to grow, I’m excited to see more people plug in and become better disciples. New people will go on mission trips, join small groups, get baptized and join teams. And they’ll experience God working through it all.

If you haven’t yet experienced the joy of serving on a team at epikos, we want you to join us! Be a part of what God is doing through epikos in Milwaukee and West Allis! Sign up to serve at serve.epikos.org

  1. Well said Rebecca! We’re so glad you’re here to help people get connected in a ministry that best uses their gifts and helps them grow in their walk with the Lord.

  2. Yes! Couldn’t agree more! I was nervous about signing up to volunteer until I realized there was so many options! I found a position that works with my gifts! My gift is calming & cuddling babies, so I volunteer in the infant room! The options are practically endless! Come join us in volunteering! It’s awesome!

And yes, that Lake Michigan water was FREEZING! But so worth publicly declaring my love for Christ!
