Resources for Defeating Porn

This Sunday (May 8th) I preached (click here for sermon) through Hebrews 13:1-6. Verse 4 of this passage is a call to sexual purity.  I shared how pornography has become a dangerous epidemic, not only in our society but also within the church.  So many men and women are trapped in the clutches of this shutterstock_256249945sin.  I’m not saying this is an easy battle, but I do believe that there is Hope and that victory is possible!  Through the power of the Holy Spirit, support from the body of Christ, and resources like the ones below, you can start your journey to healing and victory. This is a short list, so feel free to add or suggest others in the comments section.

  1. First time ever I wished for a different sermon on Mothers Day. Altho I do applaud Epikos for tackling the hard subjects.

  2. I just wanted to say thank you for your boldness in tackling a tough subject. I appreciate you shedding light on how devastating pornography is and how like other addictions, it’s very difficult to break free from.

  3. Dear moms, your sons and daughters are crying out in their hearts and acting like nothing is wrong. Porn is saturating our culture and like the prophets of Israel we need to ask the lord to restore us. I pray for your grandchildren your being robbed of from our sexual immorality that is keeping us from getting married earlier on. Many of us are and have been sexually active and we aren’t getting married because of it.

    Dear brothers and sisters,
Wake up sleepers! Find someone who has been delivered. Listen to what set them free. Listen to the broken hearts of people who honestly want out of their bondage. Books like surfing for God and everymans battle were useful but like faith I had to personally seek out my salvation for myself. I would use cov eyes and 3xwatch and it is not enough if you are burning with passion and you are triggered your flesh will drive you to be satisfied. It is similar to what heroin addicts experience with seeking out their drugs for solace. We need to genuinely cry out to God for mercy. What we have to realize is that we don’t deserve it. Mathew 15:21 Jesus calls a Canaanite women a dog and she kneels and responds by saying even the dogs eat the scraps from the table. And Jesus grants her request because of her faith. So I think the key is first ask God for faith, then to ask God for mercy. I don’t think there is a model for setting people free. It’s Personal for each of us. My dad doesn’t have an issue with porn at all, but some how I do. what began to help was just crying out to the lord but it has been a really difficult process. The more I fought it the more difficult it became to get out of my life and the more engrained the strong hold became. My life feels very similar to the man who wrote surfing for God. I never had homosexual sin in my life but I read a few stories about how homosexual men who only had been with men their whole lives suddenly became Christians and they were confused by the acceptance of their sin by Christians but when they read Romans they discovered for themselves that they can have their minds renewed. One of the stories I read said the man wrote that he loves his wife and his 9 children and will never look back because of the peace and joy in his life. I think the deliverance is a long process for many though. A friend from the navigators ministry in Cincinnati shared with me an app called rtribe where you check in every day or when ever you feel like is a good frequency for you to check in. Ours is daily. And it creates a real time accountability network. It suggests you call your friend if they report they might act out because they have been triggered. For me the accountability software just wasn’t enough, I would figure out ways around the software and I would satisfy what my flesh wanted. So I just got rid of it and when we started using rtribe I discovered if I can be honest about how I feel and talk it out with another believer in real time I know I can trust then there is a less of an opportunity to give into temptation. there is preemptive accountability. rather than repentance there is purity. I desire steadfast love and not sacrifice Hosea 6:6

I got home from sending this and my roommate confessed falling for this trick Satan layers out for us, God has new mercies for us every day but we need to repent to enter into them. We are gods children, and in 1 Corinthians 6-7 he isn’t mad at us for sinning, he is declaring over us to be pure, he is instructing the Holy Spirit to perfect and shaping christs bride to be pure and holy. Cry out to Jesus, Mathew 15:21 shows us that when we are desperate were not weak, we are right where God wants us.

  4. He is declaring for us to be pure and holy like he declared for the heavens and earth to be formed. It’s all on Jesus to be our wither and perfector of our faith.
