Today’s sermon (9/21/2015) text was Amos 2:4-5 which talked about how the people of Judah rejected God’s Word and instead followed after lies and false gods. I mentioned in my sermon 5 lies that even those inside the church can become spiritually gullible to when we are not firmly rooted in Scripture. They are listed below along with the scripture so as to combat that lie with a truth. What are the lies that you sometimes find yourself believing?
Lie #5: God doesn’t care about me
Truth: Luke 12:6-7 “Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. 7 Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.”
Lie #4: God can’t use me.
Truth: 1 Cor 12:18 “But in fact God has placed the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be”
Lie #3: No one can know this about me or help me.
Truth: James 5:16 “Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed.”
Lie #2: Only if I do a bunch of good things God will love me.
Truth: Eph 2:8 “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God”
Lie #1: God cant forgive my sins, they are too bad or I’ve done them too many times.
Truth: 1 john 1:9 “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”
